Attending the Youth Environmental Summit (YES) has become a tradition for the grade 8A students enrolled in the Cambridge Preparatory Class of Global Prestasi School (GPS), and for the second time round the students brought home the gold for the Environmental Project Presentation.  The winning environmental project presentation of the students titled GPS for GPF focused on sustainability particularly the reduction and eventual elimination of plastic waste in GPS. The group of gold medalists is composed of Raisa Miracella Colby, So Ran, Hammada Ghazi Kusumayudha, Rachmat Bowo Santoso, Chloe Ghaydaa Salihin, Putu Savita Jayani Putri, Hilkia Asanta Mutiha Parsaoran, and Dominicus Bernard Lubis who are eager to implement their project and get the whole school involved.

One of the projects under the Youth Ambassador in Singapore, YES is a platform for students to widen their knowledge on the environment and its problems, and get them engaged in helping solve these various environmental problems. It is a five-day summit composed of indoor (i.e. mentoring at MDIS) and outdoor (Water Experiential Journey at Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park and Amazing Race at Punggol Waterway Park) learning activities designed for the participants coming from the Southeast Asian region. The student-participants are also mentored by various experts in a two-day workshop in identifying issues they want to tackle and in coming up with a project they can implement in their schools. This year's topics of discussion were sustainability, water, and biodiversity.

YES introduced two innovations in this year’s summit. First, all participants - students and chaperones - were told to bring their own lunch boxes and cutlery for lunch and dinner. YES provided the sponges and detergent for everyone to wash their utensils. Second, the teachers were taken to visit the Solar Energy Research Institute of Singapore, or SERIS, at the National University of Singapore for a lecture on solar energy by Eddy Blokken, senior manager for business development.
