Melbourne Immersion Experience 2025

13 May 2025

A Journey of Learning, Culture, and Connection
Global Prestasi Junior High School

From February 21 to 28, 2025, a group of our Junior High School students embarked on an unforgettable journey to Melbourne, Australia, as part of the International Immersion Program — a meaningful initiative that brings global education to life.

Why International Immersion?

At Global Prestasi School, we believe that education goes beyond the classroom. The International Immersion Program is designed to:

  • Strengthen students’ English communication skills

  • Cultivate cultural awareness and adaptability

  • Build independence and self-confidence

  • Provide firsthand exposure to global learning environments

This program is more than a school trip — it's a life-shaping experience.

A Warm Welcome in Melbourne

The journey began on the evening of February 21 as the group departed from Jakarta (CGK). Upon arrival in Melbourne the next morning, students had breakfast and were welcomed by their homestay families — kind and supportive locals who provided not just shelter, but also a warm and enriching cultural exchange.

The first full day (February 23) was spent living the local life. Students experienced the daily routines of their host families, from grocery shopping to family meals, creating a sense of belonging and understanding of Australian lifestyle.

School Immersion at Eltham High School

From February 24 to 26, students joined the school immersion program at Eltham High School. They participated in classroom activities, interacted with local students, and gained exposure to a different learning environment that encouraged open discussion, creativity, and collaboration.

One of the highlights of the program was a special visit to the Indonesian Consulate in Melbourne, where students were able to connect with Indonesian representatives abroad — a proud and inspiring moment that deepened their sense of national identity while learning globally.

Phillip Island Excursion

On February 27, students enjoyed a full-day adventure to Phillip Island, a famous nature and wildlife destination in Victoria. The trip included a stop at Maru Koala and Animal Park, where they got up close with iconic Australian animals, followed by a classic fish and chips lunch, and a fun visit to a chocolate factory.

This excursion offered a balance of fun, culture, and appreciation for nature — a refreshing complement to their academic immersion.

Heading Home with New Perspectives

On February 28, students said goodbye to their homestay families and returned to Melbourne Tullamarine Airport to head back to Jakarta. While the trip may have ended, the memories, lessons, and friendships formed will last a lifetime.

This International Immersion Program reflects our commitment to nurturing students who are globally-minded, culturally respectful, and ready to engage with the world beyond the classroom.

Here’s to many more global learning adventures at Global Prestasi School!
