Peter Moyes Anglican School Visit to Global Prestasi School: Fostering Friendship and Embracing Culture

14 May 2024

In March 2024, a warm spirit of friendship filled the air at Global Prestasi School (GPS) in Bekasi, Indonesia. The arrival of Peter Moyes Anglican Community School (PMACS) from Australia brought an exciting blend of cultures and unforgettable moments of togetherness. This visit was a continuation of the GPJHS immersion to PMACS in October 2023, signifying the strong bond of friendship between the two schools.

Accompanied by 3 teacher chaperones, the enthusiastic PMACS students embarked on a journey of discovery at GPS. From the very first day, they were welcomed with a vibrant display of artistry. The energetic Saman dance, the spirited renditions of the Indonesian and Australian national anthems, and the heartwarming medley of traditional Indonesian songs set the perfect stage for an extraordinary cultural exchange.

A special moment unfolded as PMACS and GPS students came together to play the angklung, an iconic traditional West Javanese musical instrument. Under the guidance of Ibu Dewi, they produced a beautiful melody of "Tanah Air," echoing the harmony of friendship that was being forged.

The delectable flavors of Indonesia's culinary heritage were not to be missed. A variety of traditional cakes were presented, tantalizing the taste buds of PMACS students with their unique and distinctive flavors. This warm welcome embodied the true hospitality of Indonesia, opening doors for them to delve deeper into the culture and traditions of this rich land.

The following days were filled with exciting learning adventures. PMACS students joined their buddies at GPS, immersing themselves in various subjects such as art, sports, music, and much more. These interactive and engaging classes provided a platform for them to exchange knowledge, broaden their horizons, and forge even stronger friendships.

Moments of togetherness extended beyond the classroom. In the cafeteria, they shared stories about their respective cultures, sang together, and played with infectious joy. The laughter and camaraderie that filled the air were a testament to the true spirit of friendship that transcended boundaries.

The culmination of this visit was a spirited basketball friendly match. Teams from GPS and PMACS showcased their best skills, while always cheering each other on and upholding the values of sportsmanship. This match symbolized the strength of their friendship, where cultural and linguistic differences were no barriers to unity and enjoyment.

On the final day, a heartwarming farewell enveloped the parting. PMACS and GPS students exchanged messages and promises to stay in touch. This visit had imparted valuable lessons about the importance of being a gracious host, embracing tolerance and understanding, and appreciating the essence of sincerity.

More than just a cultural exchange, the Peter Moyes Anglican School visit to Global Prestasi School has planted seeds of friendship that will continue to sprout and grow in the future. It is hoped that this goodwill will open doors for broader collaboration and cultural exchange, building bridges between generations and nations, and enriching our understanding of the world's rich tapestry.
